Olivari has been making door handles in Borgomanero since 1911, in its own factories, where every stage of the process still happens under one roof.
The catalogue runs past a hundred handles. Some have been in production for decades. Others arrive each year from the architects and designers Olivari works with, among them Philippe Starck, Snohetta, Antonio Citterio, Naoto Fukasawa and Renzo Piano. Gio Ponti designed for them, and those pieces are still made.
It is specified where the hardware is meant to belong to the building rather than sit on it.
Three series
The catalogue divides by the shape of the rosettes and escutcheons rather than by room or function.
Square takes its character from squared technical components and a linear lever. It suits flat panelled doors and contemporary joinery.
Round uses circular rosettes with far more variation in the lever itself. It is the broadest series and where most residential projects begin.
Special is the sculptural end, where form and material carry the piece. Worth a look when one entrance door is doing the work of an entire entry.
More than levers
Door knobs, central and offset. Flush handles for cavity and pocket doors. Pull handles, door stops, escutcheons, window hardware, components for armoured doors, and a hospitality range built for hotels.
One design can therefore run the entry, the internal doors, the cavity sliders and the windows without changing language anywhere, which is difficult to achieve with most catalogues.
Finishes
Brass, chrome and satin nickel form the core, with the full offer varying handle by handle. Guilloche engraving is available on selected pieces, and it is the clearest separation between Olivari and anything produced at volume.
Confirm finish availability per product rather than assuming it runs across the range.
Before you specify
Olivari is made to order in Italy and the lead times are longer than almost everything else we carry. Put it on the schedule early. We will confirm timing line by line in writing.
Most Olivari work reaches us as a drawing rather than a shopping list, which is the right way round. Send the specification and we will price and schedule it.
On a project
Send the plans and we write the full hardware schedule around the Olivari specification, opening by opening, at no charge. Some projects carry it throughout. Others hold it at the entry and feature doors and fill the rest from a range that suits the budget. We will schedule and price it either way.
Hardware arrives labelled to the schedule and staged to your programme. How the scheduling service works.
